Nice proof on laid paper, engraving after Jean-Baptiste Greuze (Tournus, 1725 – Paris, 1805). Publisher : Laurent Cars ( Lyon, 1699 – Paris, 1771 ). Around 1760. The letter : Dedicated to Mrs Anne Gabrielle Babuty, wife of Mr Greuze, Painter of the King by his very humble and very obedient Servant L. Cars – Engraved after the Original Painting of Mr gueuze Painter of the King (…).

Engraving cut shortly before the copper except the lower margin cut inside the copper. Dimensions of the sheet : H. 322 mm x W. 250 mm – Dimensions at the bowl : H 320 mm x W. 247 mm.

JJ-Flipart-the-pelotonneuse : Jean-Jacques Flipart was born in Paris. His father was the French engraver Jean-Charles Flipart, from whom he received his initial training in the art of engraving. His brother Charles-Joseph Flipart, who was later noted for his engraved and painted work, also received his initial training from his father. He was a student of Jean-Charles, then of Peronneau, Laurent Cars (1699-1771) and Aveline. Academician in 1755, he is mentioned as the king’s engraver and is one of Cochin’s collaborators. Active in Paris.

Flipart has realized many other works such as Adam et Eve after Charles-Joseph Natoire, La Sainte famille after Giulio Romano.
