Honoré Daumier and Photography : book of Philippe Altmeyerhenzien, 2016

In 1839, the Daguerre process, the ancestor of photography, was revealed to the public. But Daumier had been using lithography for about fifteen years, which was his favorite medium. Daumier was undoubtedly the first major artist to question the new process and to mock it with caricatures as funny as they were accurate. He evokes in a satirical but realistic way the technical constraints of photography. He does the same with his actors, photographers and photographed. The book evokes in particular the influence of photography on the lithographic practice of the great artist.
