The history of art is almost silent on this artist; it only teaches us that he was born in Lyon in 1696, and that he died in Rome in 1760. It seems certain, however, that he was a member of the Royal Academy of Paris and that of Saint-Luc in Rome, and that the famous Joseph Vernet was his pupil (according to Robert Dumesnil).
